Just got my FISCH Instruments

the first four wallets.

Checked hundreds of coins already especially those below.

Interesting book enclosed about all the PHONEY coins: :thumpdown

KRUGERRANDS - bad
MEXICAN 1.2 ouncers
ENGLISH SOVEREIGNS the most counterfeited coin in the world.
Hungarian Coronas
and TOO many others.

I can't believe how they caught those guys with 4,700 counterfeit KRUGERRANDS. :bear_thumb:

Boy that'll wake you up. :bear_thumb:

I believe AuNuggets has mentioned the big Krugerrand scam in the past... had to do mainly with folks using fake Krands as collateral for a loan, rather than trying to pass them off to coin collectors, etc.

Have you come across any fakes yet, yourself, HS?

HistoryStudent...

Sure checks 'em quick & sure eh? Notice how close and certain the weight has to be to cause the coin not to drop? A coin just a tad light will register as a fake.

Super instruments IMO.

More like a phamplet. About 10-12 pages but full of good information, stories, tips, etc. It was written about 1984 so GAE's are not listed.

Json...you're right. And the numbers I have show:

Krand: 32.6 mm/Dia; 2.75 mm/Thick
Eagle: 32.7 mm/Dia; 2.87 mm/Thick

Re: Just got my FISCH Instruments

I have a 1/10 GAE Fisch and if I put them in the round socket to check shape, I can't get them back out (my wife had to help...she has smaller fingers)! So, I just set them gently on there, as long as they tip the fulcrum and fit through the slot (checking thickness and diameter), it's all good. I also mass them digitally. I imagine the larger coins would be easier.

Re: Just got my FISCH Instruments

The slight difference between the Krugerrands and the American Gold Eagles is in the different alloys. Krands are alloyed with pure copper, the AGEs with copper and silver. FWIW

Nope went through 180 of the Krugerrands.

Great instrument - quick and fast.

Really great. I'm going to check my eagles this week. The Corona were fine too with the Krugs and Sovereigns.

IMO they are also great. :applause_

Thanks for all of your INPUTS - I also did my many 1.2 50 Peso Mexican pieces.

All were fine.

The scary thing was the Krugerrands because of the 1979 PHONEYS.

They even had (per book) better definition than the originals but were silver with gold coating - and BIGGER than the REAL KRUGS. My guess is that they would not fit into a KRUGERRAND plastic holding tube for 10 to 15 coins.
